My district nurses dilemma

A study in 1999 compared the effect of factors that prevent death from vascular disease – a term encompassing heart attacks, strokes and thromboembolism. It showed the following:

Odds of preventing death over five years

By eating a Mediterranean diet are 1 in 9

By eating oily fish are 1 in 19

By stopping smoking are 1 in 21

By taking a statin are 1 in 26

By taking a ß-blocker are 1 in 30

By taking aspirin are 1 in 37

World's third largest employer

The National Health Service is the third largest employer in the world after the Chinese Army and Indian Rail. It currently employs more than 1.25 million people.
