New complaints body takes over

Dr Brigid Hughes signed up four patients to her practice after she offered lunch-hour blood pressure checks at a local restaurant.

The patients, who were not registered with a GP, will join a practice in Liverpool which is being run as a franchise by Dr Hughes and her partners.

They hope to increase its list from 1,500 to more than 4,000.

'We are not trying to poach patients from other practices,' Dr Hughes said. 'It's unusual to advertise to patients but the practice is above a walk-in centre and there are lots of people moving into Liverpool who don't know it's there.'
