Dr Noman Mohamed

Dr Mohamed’s alter-ego ‘nomzzay’ has amassed almost 2,000 followers on Instagram. He uses his platform to improve the health of the population, sharing his rap videos on subjects from the dangers of knife crime and cancer risk, to encouraging people to check on elderly relatives and neighbours during winter.

Many of his followers – who have collectively viewed his videos 11,000 times – are younger people who are less likely to access medical information in a traditional way or to consult a GP. By spreading important public health messages in this way, Dr Mohamed is engaging members of the population who are harder to reach.

At the Country Park Practice in Croydon, south London, Dr Mohamed has implemented a strategy to manage the communication of lipid results without unnecessary appointments. He has also established a scheme to facilitate discussion of cardiovascular risk with patients, to encourage take-up of preventive treatment among suitable cohorts.
