Pulse reporter wins top journalism award

Pulse journalist Alex Matthews-King won 'Newcomer of the Year’ at the Medical Journalist Association awards, last night for the quality of his reporting.

Mr Matthews-King won for his exclusive story about a controversial incentive scheme to pay GPs to reduce urgent referrals. He was praised for a 'thorough' investigation and achieving a huge amount despite less than 36 months in journalism.

He was up against Roisin Dervish-O'Kane from Healthy Magazine and Victoria Parsons from the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

Pulse editor Nigel Praities was also 'highly commended' in the 'Editor of the Year' category.

The award comes shortly after the Pulse news team won ‘Business team of the year’ at the BSME Rising Stars awards and Pulse was crowned 'Business Magazine of the Year' for the second year running at the PPA Independent Publisher awards.

Editor Nigel Praities was also named 'Editor of the Year' at the British Society of Magazine Editors awards last year.

  • Congratulations. Certainly, there is a lot of muck to be exposed in NHS. Thanks for looking at this one aspect.
