NHS LIFT 'good value but not for everyone'

Dr Bapi Biswas is considering shifting back to GMS because he believes there are no longer any advantages to being PMS.

Dr Biswas, a GP in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, said his calculations showed that PMS was no longer better financially for his practice.

He added: 'PMS is supposed to be a locally negotiated contract. There's not really been that much negotiation locally.'

Statistics from the Association of Independent Specialist Medical Accountants showed PMS GPs earned £17,000 more in 2004.
