No benefit in combining NRT and nortriptyline
Nortriptyline and NRT are both useful in helping smokers to quit, but there does not appear to be any benefit in combining the two, UK researchers report.
The study looked at 900 smokers who chose their preferred method of NRT and were then also given either nortriptyline or placebo.
It found that NRT increased the chances of quitting by 77% and nortriptyline by 134%. But there was no significant difference between combination treatment and NRT plus placebo.
