No excuse now over appraisals

Dr Mashkoor Khan says GPs have no excuse for failing to plan and prepare properly for their appraisal this year.

Dr Khan, an appraiser and GP in Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire, said last year many GPs did not schedule their appraisal until the last minute and would often show up for their slot without having prepared adequately.

'I appraised 20 GPs last year,' he said. 'About half left it late. Quite a few had not identified any educational needs, some hadn't collected clinical data and others had not completed forms they should have done.

'There's no excuse this year.'
