No need for a flu vaccine scrabble

From Richard Stubbins, Managing director Sanofi Pasteur MSD

We were surprised to read about perceived flu vaccine chaos leading to GPs across the country 'scrabbling to meet demand' (News, 23 November).

Member companies of the UK Vaccine Industry Group contacted individual GPs and customers affected during August to explain the situation and to confirm revised delivery schedules in order for them to plan vaccination clinics accordingly.

By the end of last week about 90 per cent of the 15 million doses ordered by surgeries will have been delivered, with the balance in December.

This total figure includes a million doses more than last year and represents a considerable achievement in view of the difficulties faced in manufacturing flu vaccine this year.

In fact, my company still has some flu vaccines in stock, so GPs need not 'scrabble around' if they need more doses to protect their vulnerable patients this flu season.
