A retired GP who was cleared of killing three of his patients will not face a second trial for murder, the Crown Prosecution Service has said.
Dr Howard Martin admitted hastening the deaths of terminally ill patients by lethal injection in newspaper interviews but will not face a second prosecution after an eight month police investigation into notes and video recordings of the interviews.
Dr Martin, 76, of Penmaenmawr near Conwy, north Wales was acquitted in 1985 of killing three elderly patients in County Durham where he practised. He was later struck off by the GMC for 'egregious, despicable and dangerous conduct'.
