NSF advice on CHD falls short

Current national service framework advice for CHD is falling short of the potential for preventing major cardiac events.

In an evaluation of the risk treatment thresholds, researchers with the British Regional Heart Study found the current 30 per cent 10-year risk level only prevents 11 per cent of major CHD events.

By reducing the level to 20 per cent, a third of CHD events could be prevented, rising to almost a half at a treatment threshold of 10 per cent.
