Older people strategy for Wales gets £10m
The Welsh Assembly has earmarked £10 million over three years to back up its strategy for older people launched last week.
The strategy, which was developed following consultation, sets out a framework for improving the lives of older people, including health promotion and tackling ageism.
Jane Hutt, the minister for health and social services in Wales, said: 'Its implementation will be based on collaboration between the Assembly, local government, the NHS and many others to ensure a co-ordinated approach is taken across Wales to older people's issues.
'This additional money will provide a sound basis for implementation to start from April 2003.'
