Outcry at 'fat cat' jibe against GPs

GPs have hit out after a national newspaper launched a 'GP bashing' campaign.

Daily Express columnist Carol Sarler labelled GPs as fat cats who 'don't do ill' patients, work 23 hours a week, and refer every patient to a specialist 'a doctor who knows what he's doing'.

She added: 'No GP I know will go so far as to cure you of anything. Ever' and called for readers to tell her their views about GP pay.

Dr Laurence Buckman, GPC negotiator, said Ms Sarler's views were 'outdated, inappropriate, unfortunately worded and plain wrong'.
