At the heart of general practice since 1960

Outcry is needed to ensure our survival

It was disappointing that neither Labour nor the Conservatives felt it appropriate to discuss their plans for the NHS with clinicians (News, June 28). After all, what do we know about treating patients?

At the heart of patient care in the NHS is the 'old-fashioned' GP who patients know and trust. Of course this is worrying to politicians who have never had the experience of anyone trusting them.

There are two ways in which we could respond: give up hope and let British general practice die, or stand up for ourselves and our patients against the politicians.

It will be a long and hard fight. But surely our patients deserve that!
