Over half of GPs have started the registration process with the Care Quality Commission, the regulator has revealed.

To date, 5,430 practices have set up their online account for CQC registration, while the remainder will be prompted to do so by the end of the month.
The CQC said it is currently seeing between 200 and 300 GP practices per day setting up the required account and choosing one of four deadline windows later this year to submit all the information for the registration.
CQC registration head Adrian Hughes said: ‘Registration of NHS GPs and other providers of primary medical services is going well. We have had a strong and steady number of providers setting up their accounts and choosing their 28-day "window" in which to submit their application.
‘Towards the end of the month we will be in contact those who have not yet set up their accounts, in preparation to support providers to submit their applications from September onwards.'
It comes as the CQC is set to launch an open consultation with the public, partners and other stakeholders to develop its new five-year strategy in the autumn. It said the new plan, which comes as it enters its fourth year as an organisation, will clarify its role and responsibilities as a regulator.
