Pathology lab's stubbornness puts patients at risk, say GPs

Dr Bhupinder Kohli's practice in east London is the first to operate from premises funded by NHS Lift.

The £5 million, three-story surgery, complete with atrium and roof terraces, is shared with two other practices and also houses a team of health professionals.

Dr Kohli, a GP in east London, said his previous practice was in a cramped Victorian terrace full of mouse droppings and staff morale has rocketed since the move.

The only downside is he has fewer consulting rooms though they are bigger and more accessible.

'I would recommend moving into a state-of-the-art building without risking a penny yourself,' he said. 'But it comes at a cost as you lose the long-term financial gain of having your rent paid and if you want to change something you need permission.'
