Pay up or I'll quit post at community hospital

Dr Peter Ewing is prepared to quit his community hospital post if he does not get a new pay deal that also enables him to drop out-of-hours cover.

Dr Ewing, a GP in Crieff, Perthshire, said he would carry on doing in-hours work as long as he got a pay rise but would drop all shifts unless he could opt out of out-of-hours.

'There's no way I'm going to pay to opt out of GMS out-of-hours and continue to do out-of-hours work for community hospitals,' he said.

'There's no reason why the new GMS out-of-hours service can't cover community hospitals, but mass resignation is probably the only way it's going to work.'
