"Supporting people in their own recovery journeys may mean more emphasis on coaching, peer support and help with employment – again, improving the quality of support on offer without costing the NHS extra money and with the potential for long-term savings."

Peer support groups or peer mentors can be superb value if you get the right people.

Its all about "the right people". What IAPT etc dont factor in, is as shown by numerous research- that a therapy is only as good as the person delivering it ! It's a false economy to have graduate trainees seeing tier 3 patients, who should be seen by a consultant psychologist or the therapy is a waste of everyones time- tick box CBT is not for everyone and much overvalued. Add to this mi the fact that most CMHTs around the country are doing v little management of severe mental health problems and its clear that more and more secondary care level psychiatric work is landing on GPs -who are not being given the time or funding for the extended and more frequent consultations this requires.
