PCTs consider Evercare

A dozen PCTs have approached American firm Evercare to take up its elderly care initiative.

Marcia Smith, programme leader of Evercare, part of US private health care giant United Healthcare, told a recent conference the trusts wanted to introduce the scheme but could not cannot afford it.

Ten trusts are running Government funded pilots of Evercare, which uses teams of specialist nurses to provide dedicated care to elderly patients and keep them out of hospital. But GPs in some of the areas have criticised it for causing nurse shortages.
