PCTs' out-of-hours stance is hogwash

So we are now being led to believe that some PCTs may not be ready to take over out-of-hours until 2005 (News, December 2).

May I suggest that the problem could be solved quite speedily and effectively by their paying a market rate to one of the commercial deputising companies which will no doubt be vying for the new business.

I suspect that 'not ready' is really a euphemism for 'won't stump up the cash' and could be stretched out indefinitely.

GPs (including the GPC) would be naive in the extreme to believe such hogwash.
