'Persistent' lung cancer symptoms defined

Dr Keri Thomas is calling on GPs to improve end-of-life care using the gold standard framework for palliative care she helped to develop. The framework, which was this week endorsed by the RCGP, is used by only around a fifth of practices in England and a third in Scotland and Northern Ireland

Dr Thomas, who is a national clinical lead for palliative care, said she wanted to see the framework 'firmly embedded' in GP practice. 'GPs have a vitally important role to play in the care of the dying,' she said. 'We only have one chance to get this right and we need to ensure we provide the best care every time.'
