Play fair by overseas doctors

From Dr Kamalpreet Sidhu

Newcastle upon Tyne

I am surprised Pulse hasn't taken notice of recent changes in immigration rules for overseas, non-EU doctors.

The abrupt implementation

of these rules have left thousands of overseas doctors in training angry and upset and has put their careers in jeopardy.

I don't entirely disagree with the changes but the way they have been implemented smacks of an authoritative attitude. The fact the GMC is still conducting PLAB tests at full pace sends a conflicting message.

The way forward may be to exempt those who are already in the country and have contributed valuable years to the NHS. I hope the Home Office wakes up to the reality and implements these changes in a phased manner. I also plead with the GMC to cut down PLAB places.
