GPC chair Dr Chaand Nagpaul awarded CBE

The chair of the GPC Dr Chaand Nagpaul has been honoured by the Queen for services to primary care, it has been announced.

Dr Nagpaul has been appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.

The GPC chair said he was ‘humbled’ to receive the award, which he said was a tribute to the profession as a whole.

Dr Nagpaul said: ‘I am truly touched and humbled to receive this award. It is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of over 40,000 GPs across the UK, who I am immensely proud and privileged to represent.

‘This honour equally belongs to the discipline of general practice – the most treasured jewel in the NHS’s crown and the bedrock of our health service providing personalised and trusted care to over one million patients daily.’

Dr Mark Porter, chair of BMA council said: ‘I am delighted for Chaand in receiving this honour. As chair of the [GPC], he has worked tirelessly to represent the interests of GPs and to highlight the challenges they face.’
