Practice trains staff to handle emergencies

Dr Stuart Ketchin's practice is training receptionists in resuscitation techniques and handling emergency situations.

The initiative for practices in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, was launched after a receptionist at another surgery asked a patient with acute chest pain to sit and wait while she checked when the doctor would be free.

Dr Ketchin said: 'All our staff are aware our policy is to urge patients with chest pain to seek hospital attention to reduce the call to needle time.'
