Practices not to blame for list cleansing

The statement from NHS Berkshire that it is a GP's decision to remove patients from their list in your article on list cleansing is highly misleading

GPs alarmed as 'highly discriminatory' list cleansing targets migrants

The decision to remove a patient six months after an FP69 has been issued is the PCT's, not the practice's.

This misunderstanding has led to difficulties for practices with understandably angry patients.

If the statement was made in ignorance, then the individual or department concerned has demonstrated such a lack of understanding that their continuing presence within an NHS organisation must be questioned.

I hope this statement was not made knowingly, in an attempt to shift the blame for list-cleansing errors from PCTs to practices.
