'Private centres will skew things'

Dr Katherine Burn believes local plans to set up privately run health centres will amplify distortions in the referral process.

Dr Burn, a GP in Blackburn, is concerned that proposals for Clinical Assessment Treatment and Support services will divert cash from hospitals to the new private centres.'It will be more difficult for GPs to refer patients to acute hospitals, because the hospitals may not be doing all the things they used to. Acute hospitals will be less able to do the tricky stuff.'
