Private polyclinic move

By Gareth Iacobucci

A private firm which is inviting GPs to join up to its nationwide partnership says it has begun offering bidding support to those interested in running polyclinics.

Circle Health, which has signed up 600 GPs, says it is currently looking at around five to 10 of Lord Darzi's centres on behalf of local GPs, but says this figure could ‘exponentially grow' if more GPs express an interest in the firm's offer to provide back-office, financial and IT support to bidders.

The company, which offers GPs shares and a non-exclusive agreement upon joining, is currently developing plans to build up to 50 polyclinics, and says it could facilitate GPs alongside consultants and a range of additional services such as ENT and ophthalmic services.

Dr James Whitticase, a GP partner in Circle, said: ‘What we're saying to GPs is, do you want us to help you bid for it? We don't want to own GP lists. There are a few areas, where the clinicians are saying, 'come and help us'.'
