At the heart of general practice since 1960

Proud of our Practice: consultants stand in to cover GP

There can't be many GPs who can say it takes two consultant surgeons and a GP colleague to provide sabbatical cover for them. But that's the case for Dr Mike Seymour (left), a GP at Clare House surgery in Tiverton, Devon.

In addition to the general surgery Dr Seymour provides, the five GPs at the practice provide orthopaedics, anaesthesia, cardiology, echocardiography

and endoscopy services at the

local district hospital for

patients throughout mid-Devon.

'Mike is a GP but also does surgery a consultant surgeon would normally do – and he runs a fracture clinic,' said Dr Ed Fitzherbert (right).

He added: 'I'm really proud of the service we offer because it prevents our patients having to traipse further afield.

'The generalist may be disappearing from hospital medicine but it's alive and well here.'
