Proud of our Practice: support for all in local community

Not content with caring for their own patients, staff at the Dronfield Health Centre in Derbyshire have made support services available to the entire local population.

Initiatives include a cardio club for patients and their carers, with aerobics, swimming and educational activities.

Numbers for a diabetic support group have doubled since it began three years ago, with patients meeting monthly for education and social sessions led by a GP.

GPs also run retirement seminars on financial planning, exercise and relaxation, while the district nursing team runs a continence clinic. Dr Gillian Harvey, a partner at the practice, said: 'These initiatives have empowered patients and helped them take a preventive approach to their health.'
