Psychological cost of positive PSA result

I read with some incredulity the advice given by the 3GPs panel in 'Sick baby is miles from anyone' (Features, November 8).They fail to make it clear that home visits are for the housebound, the terminally ill and those too ill to be transported to the surgery.

The mother needs to be politely but firmly told it is her responsibility to go and promptly assess how ill her child is. Having done that she can if necessary seek advice from NHS Direct or the deputising service.

All three of your doctors said they would arrange to see the child later. But this is their afternoon off, for which I presume they are paying the deputising service good money for the privilege.

These doctors for their own well-being need to be clear on this boundary.
