QOF will cut strokes

Dr Prit Buttar has calculated that almost 7,000 people will avoid a heart attack or a stroke this year because of the quality and outcomes framework.

His estimate of 3,400 fewer heart attacks and strokes respectively is based on a 3 per cent drop in 10-year risk.

Dr Buttar, a GP in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, and GPC member, made the estimate in order

to demonstrate the positive impact of the GP contract on the nation's health.
