Quality pay penalty for PMS GPs

PMS GPs will not be eligible for all 1,050 quality points under the new contract, health minister John Hutton has revealed.

In a letter to PMS practices, Mr Hutton said they would not be able to claim points that relate to existing Red Book quality schemes. Only points that relate to new investment in GMS practices will be available to PMS GPs.

The move is to ensure equity between GMS and PMS GPs. Details on how many points they can get will be released 'in due course'.

Mr Hutton also said PMS GPs returning to GMS could qualify for the MPIG, despite having no global sum equivalent to base calculations on.

They will have to submit a 'strong and robust case' to their PCO showing how their current income, including growth money, maps to the global sum.
