'Rally round GP trainers'

Dr Stephen Cox is seeking GPs' support for a new group to represent GP trainers. Dr Cox, a GP in Nottingham, said the pressures of 'the day job' had made life harder for trainers and practices.

Chronic under-resourcing was affecting historically high levels of goodwill among trainers, he said, and foundation training and the new MRCGP exam meant problems were only likely to rise.

Around 30 GPs have offered support so far. Dr Cox said: 'The idea is to gauge whether there is enough interest to be able make representations to whoever holds the pursestrings. If it's just 30 names on a list it will die a death.'
