CCGs 'must rethink urgent care provision'

The only effective way to manage urgent care and out-of-hours care, is through revitalising GP Co-operatives in the form of collaborative medical services wholly owned and run by the local GPs. GPs can then effectively triage and see patients at one Centre in each town in an integrated way or where appropriate visit patients at home. GP Co-operatives have been the most successful and the biggest network of out-of-hours services in the history of the NHS, and they should be encouraged again to retain the public confidence and ensure involvement of the local GPs.
