This all seems to be about managing risk factors rather than really preventing deaths. Is there any place for coronary calcium scoring to determine who actually has coronary artery plaque rather than just the risk factors? Do the patient's get angiography and referral for cardiac surgery or do they have to wait to see if they develop symptoms first? I am hoping someone who knows will let me know.
