Q&A: What will 'named GPs' do?

… and whilst the GP's are expected to dedicate this time to one group of patients, what happens to the rest of them? Can't see the GP he is on the phone to A&E, a community service staff member wants to talk to him, another patient is being discharged from A&E and needs home care, answering call from ambulance services … gosh they are really clever to be able to do all these things and still run a very bust practice! How are practices with small numbers of GP's supposed to cope. Large practices have large lists, this will mean fewer appointment slots fro general patients, or are we all supposed to wish out lives away to qualify this extra attention? We all know what we would like, but unless both the funding and resources are there, we just can't have it!
