NICE is not operating from an ivory tower

Comment

Professor Haslam You state (in this article)... "But let’s be clear here: the guidance is not advocating that statins should be prescribed as a matter of course for people with a CVD risk that is equal to or greater than 10% over 10 years." Whereas the NICE website states... "NICE is recommending that the threshold for starting preventive treatment of these conditions should be halved from a 20% risk of developing CVD over 10 years to a 10% risk." .....so if you feel that NICE have been misrepresented, you need to re-examine your own systems of communication. You appear to be giving directly conflicting advice here. I suspect the 'ivory towers' accusation that you clearly dislike arises from the lack of clear and practical guidance to those of us at the coalface.
