GP urgent cancer referrals to soar as NICE lowers threshold for symptoms

Aged 55 and over with weight loss and upper abdominal pain, reflux or dyspepsia. Hmmm. I always referred them for an urgent gastroscopy anyway. I was taught at med school that those Sx might mean stomach cancer. (Er.... 1975-80) And in my local trust, the patient only gets an endoscopy anyway; if negative they are discharged. So, an "urgent" GP referral for endoscopy might be 3 w wait. A "cancer" referral 2w wait. Is there likely to be a difference in outcome? Discuss. (If you want) BTW, that skin lesion looks like a melanoma to me.
