GP urgent cancer referrals to soar as NICE lowers threshold for symptoms

My worry is that GPs will be slated (again) for non-referral of people with vague symptoms. Regrettably my patients do not come in with labels round their neck saying "I have cancer". Hospital doctors often criticise us for not referring earlier - but they would not have the capacity to see unfiltered patients. Will a referral for an appropriate scan count as a GP doing their job properly or will we all have to use the 2 week fax system and abrogate the responsibility to work up the patient before referral?
