Allow the buying and selling of goodwill in GP: - Currently this will be worth nothing so will not be 'gifting' GPs money. In fact, some practice's goodwill would be negative due to unlimited liabilities. - The opportunity to create goodwill and value will encourage genuine innovation in GP and possibly allow it to survive. - It will incentivise GP partners nearer retirement to engage with rather than block reorganisation and innovation as they will possibly have an asset to sell on retirement or it might even encourage them to delay retirement in order to build their goodwill stake (thereby easing the recruitment crisis). - It will also mitigate the degradation of the GP NHS pension scheme for doctors, but also provide the government with tax revenue from the sale of goodwill on retirement. - The value of goodwill would be heavily linked to patient list size. Providing patients with a better service will be the key to list size, and happier patients are good for politicians as well.
