Austerity and what it means for practices

We have one of the cheapest and best health care systems [ Commonwealth fund report]. We have done hours and hours of extra work for buttons [ ie 80 hour weekends at 30 pence an hour], profit per consultation now is £ 6 or thereabouts. We have reached the end. Any more cuts and an already crumbling service will just keel over. A new system with co-payments is required, because the nation is broke and cannot afford a completely free at point of contact. I think patients can pay something per doctor visit for [ heating, lighting, cleaning, admin etc] . Medical care can still be nearly free.
