English GPs move north of the border due to spiralling indemnity fees

I just got a quote from all three, MPU and MDDUS quoted almost exactly the same figure - MPS quoted 15% higher. I do wonder what kind of 'market' there is in medical indemnity insurance given there are only three provides - I bet these fees would be significantly lower if there was genuine competition. It's amazing the variety in quotes you get each year on car insurance and there are many more providers of car insurance. Tried ringing the MDDUS membership line at 6:00pm and guess what they were closed. They only open 9-5 Monday to Friday. Hardly an organisation at the cutting edge of competitive customer focused value hey...can't think of many other private services where there is genuine completion that are only open 9-5 Monday to Friday for new business - more like the kind of service you'd expect from your 'hyper efficient' local council. The problem we have with medical indemnity is there is no competition. Just as the government has a near monopoly on health care employment so it goes for the indemnity guys.
