'Everyone wants more money – but we have to be realistic'

"Everyone wants more money. but where is it .....We have to be realistic" We ARE realistic but we are being asked to do the impossible: to provide a service for a demand which is insatiable and expanding. It is not we who are unrealistic. The Government want to portray themselves as pushing for a "world class" 7/7 8 to 8 service but know with no prospect of more GPs this is resulting in total collapse of primary care. THEY DO KNOW IT. The grave shame is that the public are being groomed by the Government into demanding as a right what is not possible to provide even with a totally private system. We GPs have been treated like an abused spouse by the Government. We would not harm our patients because we care and have devoted our lives to this profession. The only option is to resign and find some other way of making a living that doesn't leave me feeling sick at the end of every 14 hour day. I also don't want more money ( I have taken pay-cut after pay-cut in the last 10 years ) I need to work less hours at a less intense dangerous pace. WAKE UP PATIENTS ! Demand your MP asks the DOH what will happen when there are so few doctors the service can't go on? What is the plan for a private service? Because that is the agenda here. And that is what is happening imminently. "The Way Forward " is WAY too little WAY too late.
