Inhaled steroids in COPD: a classic case of overtreatment?


this debate has been going on for a long time. When I was a registrar 20 years ago I did my audit on exactly this issue. The above comment is correct. "exacerbations" that are read coded can be anything from ITU admission to a bit of a cough/hyperventilation and the OOH doc was playing safe. The approach of trying a few puffers and sticking with what seems to work still serves us well. This is the reality on the ground.
