10 tips on being appropriately assertive in your surgery

My 10 tips on assertiveness....... 1- remind the punters, 10 mins means 10 mns. 2- ban any receptionist interruptions unless Life Threatening or cup of tea. 3- bounce all petty complaints to P Manager. 4- deal with every dodgy home visit request with a phone call &/or "get to surgery", and be especially tough on Nursing Homes 5- refuse all non contractual work if no fee. 6- get out the building at lunch time, even if it's a garage sandwich in the car, phone off, radio on. 7- refuse all phone requests for benzos etc, after a while they'll stop asking. 8- practice saying "no" a lot more to patients who bully you into doing things beyond your remit. 9- practice your "I'm very very busy" face to avoid people dumping work on you. 10- zero tolerance MEANS zero tolerance, using proper procedure to remove offensive patients from the list promptly.
