GP numbers decrease by more than 1,000 over past year

The figures are probably worse than even these number reveal. The largest fall is in GP providers numbers. Without any disrespect to locums and salaried doctors (who quite rightly insist on appropriate working hours), providers tend to work the longest hours. 1000 f/t GP partners converting to 1000 salaried doctors probably is the equivalent of losing 10000-20000 hours/ week or maybe 350 full time doctors.
