Bawa-Garba: timeline of a case that has rocked medicine

The GMC has been shown in a study published in BMJ 2011 to be biased against doctors who graduated outside UK. Although the overseas doctors constitute 35% of NHS doctors and without whom the NHS would not have survived, it was found that 60% of successful GMC sanctions are against overseas graduates. The study concluded that: Non-UK qualified doctors are more likely to receive “high impact” decisions at each stage of the fitness to practise process. However when we as overseas graduates raise concern about a doctor, we are more likely to be ignored. This has happened to me recently.
