Grassroots GPs call for GMC chief’s resignation in light of Bawa-Garba case

Self declaration: I am not a member of GP Survival But I still want to refer back to this GMC own internal report in 2014 about the number of doctors who committed suicide during FTP (fitness to practise) proceedings: The role and distinction of GMC and MPTS were well specified in the wake of these colleagues who unfortunately took their lives . What has happened to GMC since 2014? There is an urgent need of ‘culture shift’ in face of this verdict. Legislations need to be changed . The legal label of the liability when a patient dies as a result of medical mistake(s) , is either murder (with intent) or manslaughter(no intent) if individuals are convicted. It is one thing or the other but nothing else . 21st century medicine is getting more complex with more technologies , but it never implies that we can have a perfect world with zero mistakes as machines will have their share of faults . If these arguments are not addressed directly, we merely will have to ask more and more heads of our regulators to resign.
