Limit drugs prescribed to young people at risk of self-harm, GPs told

Given that the vast majority of SELF-poisonings are with OTC or someone else's medications, what is the likely effect of a GP faced with a vulnerable young person with low self-esteem and thoughts of low self-worth and suicidal ideation, telling that patient that the GP agrees they are useless and cannot be trusted to handle a reasonable quantity of medicines safely? It would of course result in a saving to the NHS, in that there would be one less mouth to feed!
