In one ear and out the other

This is so true of many consultations we have! Difficult complicated single or multiple diagnoses, these patients often in the hands of several secondary care specialists and as we are the most easily accessible doctors plus the lack of understanding of our generalist role these patients expect us to conjure up an answer whilst at the same time batting away any possible helpful suggestion all in the space of 10 minutes! At the end of our frustrations we have to realise that its only minutes of annoyance for us but months/years of frustration for the patients involved. The NHS system does little for them and an awful lot of doctor time is taken up by this system.
