When was the last time you felt appreciated?

I have to say I feel appreciated every time I go to work...especially by the wonderful administrative team in the practice I'm currently working at...who look at me when I come in as if to say 'thank God you're here' and when I leave there's a distinct 'please come back' These guys can't recruit a long term GP and rely increasingly on Locums. This is the story in most practices I go to in fact, so yes, I feel appreciation all the time...but mostly from administrative staff ....patients ...they are less appreciative and have a tendency to moan that the inadequate amount they are willing to pay in tax doesn't give them access to so much more of the 'all you can eat' 24 hour access 'free at the point of delivery' health care system they have come to believe they are so entitled to. Once you've finished your training - people will appreciate you more. Don't be disheartened. But you might find it is your colleagues - who rely on you being there for their own jobs - who will appreciate you most....and you will have the opportunity to really make a positive difference ...despite the crap in the papers....because if YOU weren't there, there's actually a very real possibility that no one else would be.
